What to Look for in a Double Glazing Firm

So you want new windows and doors?  What should you look for in a double glazing firm?  We share three top tips on how to choose the right firm for you.

Purchasing new, double glazed windows and doors is a sizeable investment for most families, but how do you know you’re choosing a  trustworthy, top quality firm to manufacture and fit them for you?

1. Select a firm with accreditations

And then research them. An unscrupulous firm may give the impression of being fully accredited but the reality might be quite different.  Nearly all accreditation bodies will list their members on their websites, so make sure you check each one.   One of the most important of these is the well-known government-backed, Certass. If you choose to employ a Certass registered company, you’ll benefit from a firm that has already complied with local building regulations and one that is regularly re-assessed by the governing body for quality.  They would be working to Government endorsed standards as monitored by TrustMark, ensuring quality of workmanship and trading practices.

2. Choose one that comes highly recommended

You want to work with a firm that comes highly recommended so do your research. Check local and national review sites for your potential partner, and of course, the company’s own website for referrals and testimonials from previous clients. Again, some less honest firms could falsify their own website reviews but a genuine company would have no issue with you speaking directly to previous customers to check the quality of their installations – just ask them. You could also ask for local addresses and photographs of previous work, then you can have a drive past and take a look for yourself. This is great for reviewing how well an installation has ‘aged’.

3. Go local

It is likely that a local firm will take greater care over you and your new windows. To be successful locally, a company will rely on word of mouth and are likely to provide a much higher level of service than a large, national organisation. Also, if your windows are manufactured round the corner, they are more likely to be higher quality than those that have to be shipped in from many hundreds of miles away.

If you are thinking of having your windows replaced then take note of local firms fitting in your area – many display a board outside their most recent job. G&L Windows are local manufacturers and fitters who would be only too pleased to talk to you and put you in touch with some previous, happy customers.  Just contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
